Ten candidates for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nomination and their supporters are traveling the country in a last-ditch effort to persuade party delegates to support them ahead of today’s (Saturday, August 26) NPP super delegates conference.
As at the time of writing this article, the NPP Super Delegates Conference had topped Twitter trends and it is generating a lot conversations on the platform as to who scales through to make the lucky 5 presidential candidates.
The primary goal of the conference is to select the final five candidates from the current field of ten candidates as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
The NPP Super Delegates Conference will have a big impact on where the party is going in the future.
The ten candidates, which also include Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen, Joe Ghartey, Kwadwo Poku, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Addai Nimo, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Kyeremateng Agyarko, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are actively working to win over party delegates with their distinctive campaign platforms.
A total of 955 delegates are anticipated to cast their votes across 17 voting locations spread across the nation, with the Electoral Commission being charged with the crucial duty of overseeing the electoral process.
Meanwhile, a lot of people have tipped Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Alan Kyeremanten and Kennedy Agyapong ahead of the rest, leaving two spots open to the remaining 7 presidential aspirants.
At the long run, many NPP members including many bigwigs are rooting for Vice President Dr. Bawumia to lead the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Interestingly, even the opposition NDC are calling for Dr. Bawumia to emerge as NPP flagbearer to face John Mahama, according to them, they believe Mahama will easily defeat Bawumia.
However, in order for the party to succeed in the general elections of 2024, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, must be chosen as its leader, according to Nana Obiri Boahen.
