5-years after Boakye Agyarko was sacked by President Nana Akufo-Addo as the Energy Minister, the presidential hopeful has finally opened up.

Boakye Agyarko speaking in an interview on UTV, monitored by InsightNewsgh.com revealed the reasons behind his removal from the position of Energy Minister in 2018.

According to him, he foresaw that President Akufo-Addo was going to sack him because some members in NPP hated him.

“To my understanding, there are two reason for resignation, you’re resigning because of culpability or because there’s something wrong going you don’t want to be involved in,” the NPP flagbearer aspirant said.

Asked which of the reason he mentioned pushed him to step down as the Energy Minister, he said, “I never resigned, I received a call from the Chief of Staff that the President said he can no longer work with me again, so I shoud step down,” Mr. Agyarko said.

He added that his sacking didn’t come as a surprise to him because he noticed certain things happening which prompted him that he was going to relieved of his job soon.

“I had already prepare myself to resign, but I wanted to be clear if I was stepping down because I have accepted I did something wrong, No!. If I am resigning I would have to explain to Ghanaians, The President gave me the job he has the power, he can take it back his job and that is why he finally relieved me of my job,” he stressed.

Since it became known that the government had attempted to review the Ameri deal but that the new deal on the table was not superior to what was already in place, Boakye Agyarko came under fire.

The build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) contract between the government and the Africa and Middle East Resources Investment Group (AMERI Energy) that was signed on February 10, 2015, had been under review as government sought Parliamentary approval.

Boakye Agyarko was fired from his job in August 2018 as a result of the debate over the Ameri power deal review.

The former Energy Minister stated on Accra-based Asempa FM that he hadn’t spoken to Nana Addo in person in over a year when responding to his dismissal.
