Ghanaians’ opinions on sports betting have recently been divided, with some highlighting its negative effects on the youth.
Ghanaian youth who partake in sports betting have been vocal in their criticism of the new tax on social media.
Kumawood actor and businessman, Kwadwo Nkansah popularly know as Lil Win has added his two cents on the newly imposed 10% betting tax brouhaha.
In a recent interview, Kwadwo Nkansah said paying tax is good because taxes are used to develop the country.
In his submission, he stated that a lot of the youth are engaging themselves in betting and lottery because of the high unemployment rate in the country.
According to Lil Win, if the youth chose to engage in betting if there jobs in the system then the government had every right to impose the 10% betting tax because it would have shown that the youth are lazy and want quick money.
However, Kwadwo Nkansah believes that the if the government started by taking 2% tax initially and gradually increased it over time, the youth wouldn’t complain.

Meanwhile, Lilwin has declared his intention to run as an Independent for the Afigya Kwabre South Seat.
He claims that a number of influential people have contacted him and encouraged him to run for the Afigya Kwabre South constituency.
On August 23, 2023, he revealed this during an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Okay FM.
Lilwin continued by saying that the reason why the local authorities wanted him to run for office was because of his large following.
“Last year, around October, I found myself in a situation where a number of elders approached me. According to them, they had already convened to discuss the possibility of me becoming their MP, but as an independent candidate. They assured me of their commitment to ensure my victory in the election.
“More recently, their concern was intensified due to my latest movie, ‘Mr. President.’ They came for a copy of the movie and after watching it, they came and informed me that no matter what they have spoken with my mother, my uncle Wofa Atta and a lot of my family members that, I have to become an MP,” he said.
