James Gyakye Quayson, the member of parliament for the Assin North Constituency, has adamantly declared that he is not afraid of prison.

He claimed that the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s administration interfered with his daily trial.

The president of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo urged residents of Assin North to vote against Gyakye Quayson ahead of the by-election in Assin North on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

He claimed that Quayson would probably be charged with perjury and that it would be pointless to vote for him.

Residents, according to Nana Addo, shouldn’t back or vote for people who are embroiled in legal disputes that could ultimately land them in jail.

Gyakye Quayson, however, reaffirmed in an interview with Citi TV that he believes he will be cleared of all charges.

Quayson said, “So I don’t fear going to jail at all,” in reference to any fear of imprisonment.

The High Court in Accra is currently hearing the perjury case against James Gyakye Quayson.

In connection with a number of alleged offenses in the run-up to the 2020 Assin North parliamentary election, he is accused of forgery and perjury.

He entered a not guilty plea to five counts of forging a passport or travel document, making a false statutory declaration intentionally, lying under oath, and making a false declaration for office.

The prosecution’s case is that when Quayson applied for a Ghanaian passport, he falsely claimed to the passport office that he didn’t have a passport for another nation.

In other news, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) under President Nana Akufo-Addo administration is gradually losing their popularity in the Ahafo Region.

According to Collins Dauda, the NPP become unpopular in the Ahafo Region due to the development former president John Dramani Mahama has done in the region.
