A 19-year-old car washer who committed robbery was given a 17-year sentence.

He was given a prison sentence by the Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah-presiding Accra Circuit Court for stabbing a woman he robbed, leaving her in critical condition in the hospital.

On his first day in court, Christopher Amolee, the defendant, entered a plea of guilty simpliciter to the charge of robbery contrary to Section 149 of the Act 29/60.

Following his own plea, he was found guilty.

According to reports, Amolee carried out the crime on August 9, 2023, in Sakumono, Greater Accra Region, and stole GH976 from his victim.

Amolee, who appeared sober in court, described what happened before being sentenced but said he had no idea what had driven him to do it.

Since he had nowhere to go, he also prayed for the court to have mercy on him and for his master to forgive him and accept him back.

He testified before the court that he only has his master, whom he had wronged before receiving his punishment, and neither a mother nor a father.

After being found guilty, the convict appeared in court unrepresented, but he had a lawyer who was pleading with the judge to exercise mercy and give him the least amount of punishment.

Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, the prosecuting officer, pleaded with the court to impose a punishment that would be commensurate with the seriousness of the crime and take into account the victim’s precarious health.

The angry-looking Minister of Roads and Highway Kwasi Amoako-Atta ordered two illegal miners to wash and clean mud that had accumulated on some of the Akrofufu to Twapease tarred roads in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern region.

According to reports, the illegal miners were transporting excavators from their mining site near the roadside with low bird truck vehicles, spreading mud on the tarred road and causing gridlock.
