In advance of the general elections in 2024, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a warning about the party leadership’s dangerous trend.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto has criticized the party’s lack of discipline over the years, adding that everyone is seen doing whatever suits them.

He claimed that the party’s level of indiscretion cost it many seats, votes, and its preferred Speaker of Parliament.

He said “There’s no discipline in the party. What is going on is a classic example, where high party officials are campaigning for one candidate against the instructions and regulations of the party, and they know that nobody will say anything to them. Any institution cannot live without discipline.”

If the discipline is not upheld, according to Dr. Afriyie Akoto, the NPP will have trouble winning the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.

He claimed that the NPP has a lot of work ahead of it to persuade Ghanaians to support it in the 2024 election.

He said that the people at the bottom complained about not getting anything from the government they supported.

“I had an even closer view of the party situation in 2020 when for the ten months that the president was campaigning I was wig him all the time. That gave me an even closer view of what is happening at the party. What I saw did not impress me.

“You could see that our soldiers, that is the pollen station executives, their supervisors and constituency executives, everywhere you went, they were complaining; ‘we haven’t gotten anything, we are hungry,” the former Agriculture minister stated.

In order to run for president in the general election of 2024 on the NPP ticket, Dr. Afriyie Akoto started his presidential campaign.

He made mention of how his administration plans to revive Ghana’s faltering economy.
