According to Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, he is the only one of the ten candidates with comprehensive plans to improve everyone’s quality of life in Ghana.
He emphasized that his innovative plans, along with his intention to launch businesses for the NPP, are pragmatically designed to usher in the long-awaited positive change for Ghanaians. He highlighted his vision of using agriculture as a foundational pillar to drive economic growth across various sectors.
Dr. Akoto said he has traveled widely across the country and is driven by a desire to lift the spirits of those who are struggling financially.
He claimed that his ideas went beyond accepted management and business practices and had the power to greatly enhance people’s quality of life.
Dr. Akoto emphasizes that his proposal to create NPP-affiliated businesses is not a novel idea, as similar projects have proven successful in other global jurisdictions in an interview held at his campaign headquarters in Accra on August 15, 2023. These businesses not only bring in a sizable profit but also give party members who are unemployed employment options.
Dr. Akoto sees his plans as a way to raise people’s spirits given the current low morale in the community. He positions his ambitious projects as priorities for advancing the NPP and the country, with a focus on using agriculture as a catalyst to uplift various sectors.
Dr. Akoto, a former two-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, explained what he intended to do for the UP tradition when chosen as its flagbearer. He said one of his big plans for the party is to establish a chain of party-owned businesses at the national, regional, and constituency levels that will be run by a holding company.
He pointed out that these companies will generate income to support the party’s operations as well as give its members opportunities for gainful employment to lessen their plight.
He continued by saying that the Kuomintang (KTM), or Nationalist Party of Taiwan, the ANC in South Africa, the RPF in Rwanda, the French Communist Party, the Social Democrats in Germany and Austria, as well as Scandinavian socialist and communist parties, among many others, are all implementing this ambitious plan in Taiwan.
