For allegedly stealing a total of GHc287,775.47 from the unit head of the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB), a secretary at the Ministry of Energy is being prosecuted.
Regina Abanga, the suspect, is accused of manipulating the bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and stealing the money, which belonged to Irene Aka Antwi, a member of staff at the bank’s head office.
The suspect was charged with 116 counts of stealing at her arraignment in Accra’s Circuit Court, and she pleaded not guilty to any of the charges.
The case has been continued to September 5 for a new hearing, and the suspect, 44, has been granted bail in the amount of GHC $250,000.
The suspect was required to appear in court before Her Honor Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie and provide three sureties, one of whom had to be justified by a landed property worth GHC 125k, according to a report by starrfm.com.gh. She must also show up at the police station every Wednesday until further notice.

According to the news website, the prosecutor, DSP Evans Kesse, informed the court that Regina Abanga, the accused, works as a secretary for the Ministry of Energy in Accra, while the complainant is the unit head officer for the bank’s e-business operation.

In other news, the Northern Region’s capital of Yendi has remanded a local road contractor into prison custody for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl and giving her HIV and tuberculosis.
According to reports, the suspect, identified as Alhassan Yakubu Kamgbala, warned the minor not to tell anyone about the crime lest she perish when he allegedly committed it in January of this year.
Before assaulting the teen and putting her in a health situation that would change her life, he is said to have been a contractor working on the roads in the Gushegu town.
On Thursday, August 24, 2023, he is scheduled to return to court to answer for his alleged crime.
In an interview with Citi News, the victim’s father, Awuni Tia, bemoaned how the suspect had put his daughter in a precarious situation.
