The University of Ghana, Legon may soon change its name to better reflect the memory and contributions of President Akufo Addo’s uncle, J.B. Danquah.
The proposal to rename the university after J.B. Danquah, in the president’s opinion, would be worthwhile.
The University of Ghana, one of the best tertiary institutions in Africa, was founded thanks to J.B. Danquah’s innovative work and tenacity in rallying Ghanaians to establish their own university.
He maintains that it is accurate to refer to the Ghanaian academic and politician as one of the University of Ghana’s founding fathers.
“Indeed, in many other jurisdictions where there is less heat in their politics and more attachment to the fact of historical record, it would not have been out of place to have this university named after him. Who knows, one day it may well happen,”
“It will be wholly appropriate and not at all far-fetched to describe Joseph Boakye Danquah as the founder of this institution(University of Ghana), a fact that, on the 75th anniversary of its existence, should be vividly recalled by all of us who are being and are the beneficiaries of his work,” he said.
However, he noted that it was challenging to honor the Pan-Africanist because of how bitterly divided American politics appear to have become.
The University of Ghana received congratulations from President Akufo-Addo on its diamond jubilee anniversary and for the part it has played in the advancement of the country.

In other news, Carlos Ahenkorah, a member of parliament for Tema West, has reaffirmed that he still stands by his actions of stealing ballot box during the speakership election vote counting on January 7, 2021.
As part of plans to stop Alban Bagbin of the NDC from becoming Speaker that day, the legislator fled with a set of ballot papers during a very chaotic Speaker election session.
However, his plans fell through when he was pursued by opponents on the other side. His actions were widely denounced as violent, immature, and undemocratic by the general public and civil society.
