Liverpool and Brighton have reached an agreement on a British-record transfer fee for midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Caicedo is scheduled to travel to Liverpool on Friday for a medical, and the transfer fee is reportedly worth £111 million. The agreement will also contain a sell-on clause.
Brighton gave bidders until Thursday at midnight to submit their offers, and if their valuation was met, they would choose the highest bidder.
After Caicedo signaled his willingness to move to Anfield late on Thursday night, Liverpool formally submitted their offer.
According to reports, Chelsea was willing to pay up to £100 million, while Bayern Munich said they would spend £90 million.
According to Sky Sports News, negotiations with Brighton were ongoing in order to determine all the financial terms of a deal, just in case Chelsea couldn’t or wouldn’t come to an agreement.
Just after midnight, Liverpool received word that they had won the auction. Personal terms with Moises Caicedo have been agreed upon, and preparations are currently being made for all transfer-related formalities.
Independiente del Valle sold Moises Caicedo to Brighton for £4.5 million in 2021. Independiente del Valle will also pocket 20% of the transfer fee from Caicedo move to Liverpool if everything is finalized.
In other sports news, to sign Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, West Ham United has reached an agreement.
West Ham United reportedly made an offer of £30 million for Maguire on Monday, and that offer has since been accepted, according to The Athletic.
After selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million, David Moyes’ team is looking for reinforcements, and Maguire will be hoping to resurrect his career after falling out of favor under Erik ten Hag.
The 30-year-old played in just 16 Premier League games last season because Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Lisandro Martinez were preferred in the center of defense.
The captaincy of Manchester United was also removed from the England international earlier this summer.
