Kevin-Prince Boateng, a Ghanaian international, has retired from his career as a professional football player. The former Black Stars midfielder, who has played for as many as 15 different clubs, is hanging up his boots. At the age of 36, the versatile footballer excelled as an attacker.

The seasoned player made his retirement officially known, today, Friday, August 11, 2023. German team Hertha Berlin was the last club he played for.

When KP Boateng returned to his old team in 2021, he was able to prevent relegation for the team that year. He also aided the team both on and off the field by serving as a player-coach and a role model for the younger players.

Following months of consideration and consultations, KP Boateng has decided that the time to retire is now.

Some of the clubs he played for during his extraordinary journey as a professional footballer include Dortmund, AC Milan, Barcelona, Tottenham, Schalke, Genoa, and more.

He had a short but impactful stint with the Black Stars and was part of the Ghana squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

This was after he told DPA in a report filled months ago that, “I have to see what is best for me, what my body can still give. I will make a statement in two weeks. I’m still in a phase where I’m waiting to see what happens next. The last few weeks and months have been difficult for me. That’s why I told all the parties that I needed a bit of a break, that I wanted to go on vacation. But something will be decided in the next two weeks and then I will announce it.”
