Candidates for president have been warned by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from giving the impression that the party’s electoral roll for its presidential primaries is unreliable.

Some aspirants’ campaign teams expressed concern over the register’s potential for errors.

However, the NPP assured that the members of the committee are closely collaborating with the candidates for president to ensure that all errors are corrected in a statement dated August 7 and signed by the Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, William Yamoah.

The party reaffirmed that the Presidential Elections Committee is committed to producing a reliable voter register as well as a free, fair, and transparent election process.

“We are aware that complaints about albums have been a subject matter of disputes in the history of our political party elections in the 4th Republic and this is exactly what the NPP together with the Presidential Elections Committee is taking steps to avoid in the current contest. It is therefore unfortunate for anyone to give the impression to Ghanaians that the Album is a fallacy.”

“We wish to assure the entire public that the Presidential Elections Committee is determined not only to produce a credible Voter Register but also to ensure that the election process is free, fair and transparent. In this regard, we continue to invite inputs from interested individuals and Party members”.

In related news, among the ten candidates, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the most qualified to be chosen as the NPP flagbearer, according to Dan Botwe, Member of Parliament for the Okere Constituency.

Dan Botwe, a former general secretary of the NPP, said he knows and loves the other candidates but that choosing Dr. Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer is the best tactical move for the party while speaking to party stakeholders in the Okere Constituency on Sunday as part of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
