Several families would benefit from the completion of the Saglemi housing project, but the Akofu Addo government has wasted millions of cedis on the National Cathedral, according to former president John Dramani Mahama.
This is outrageous, he says; “It is unacceptable for Akufo-Addo to spend over half a billion cedis on a national cathedral project that has ultimately failed due to corruption and is now abandoned, yet refuses to commit funds to complete a housing project that will benefit thousands of Ghanaian families. Just think about the countless number of Ghanaian families who could have had decent living conditions over the past 7 years and the individuals who could have had a place to truly call home in Saglemi.
According to the former president Mahama, partisan interests should not take precedence over the needs of the populace.
“Knowing the NPP government, they did not want to complete the Saglemi housing project simply because it was initiated by John Mahama and an NDC administration.

No matter who started a project or resource, leaders must always put their citizens’ needs first and make sure they profit from them. Mr. Mahama posted something on Facebook.
In collaboration with five property developers, the government opened 8,000 new housing units. Within 18 months, the 4,000 housing unit first phase is anticipated to be finished.
In the meantime, the former president Mahama started construction on 5,000 homes in Saglemi, Pampram. The $200 million project was almost finished when the NDC government was overthrown.
Instead of beginning a brand-new project, the public and civil society organizations are putting pressure on the NPP government to finish the Saglemi project.
The government declined and chose to fund a brand-new initiative in order to increase the unaffordable public debt instead.
