Andre Onana is trending number 1 on Twitter trends currently after conceding a halfway goal against RC Lens at Old Trafford in a club friendly.
Twitter is buzzing with over 131k tweets of Onana after conceding a goal in his third appearance for his new club Manchester United. He made his Old Trafford debut today but conceded a goal which has got everyone talking about him.
The Cameroonian stopper has become a target for social media trolls following his move from Inter Milan to Man United to replace David de Gea who left the club after ten Hag refused to sanctioned his contract renewal as the manager wanted a ball playing goalkeeper – a skill De Gea lacked.
Onana made things worse for himself when he yelled at Harry Maguire recently after the defender mistake almost cost a goal a few days ago.
The viral video of Onana shouting at Maguire after saving the team from the defender’s nightmare received a lot of criticisms from social media users and football fans for disrespecting Maguire in that manner.
With that aside, social media users are dragging Onana again after a defensive error which led to RC Lens player Sotoca scoring a halfway line stunner to open the scoreline of the game.
Following the goal, Twitter users have started trolling the goalkeeper who seems so confident in himself, plays the ball from the back and loves to come out of his post to initiate attack.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, the Red Devils new goalkeeper took responsibility for the goal the team conceded.
“I am responsible for everything especially when we concede goals. I’m the big man at the back so I take all the criticism, all the pressure on me,” he said.
His response seems to me that Onana sensing the danger ahead of the main season for Man United has already developed a tough skin to deal with all kinds criticisms that will his way anytime the Red Devils concedes a goal or get defeated.
Even though Man United came from behind to win 3-1 thanks to Rashfod, Antony and Casemiro goals, social media users are not interested in that but have decided to drag Onana.
Relatively, Manchester United officially announced Rasmus Hojlund signing before kick-off at Old Trafford. Hojlund who signed a five year plus option to extend walked into the pitch in front of supporters.
Hojlund becomes the third player to be unveiled at Old Trafford prior to a game after Raphael Varane and Casemiro both against Leeds United and Liverpool respectively.
