Ajax and Brighton & Hove Albion have reached a preliminary agreement for the transfer of attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
The fee, assuming the agreement is finalized, is in the neighborhood of €40 million (£34.5 million; $44 million). That would make it a club record acquisition, surpassing the just under £30 million paid for Joao Pedro this summer.

The Premier League club and Ghanaian international Kudus are close to finalizing personal terms.
Brighton’s head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who sees Kudus as a key target, has been the driving force behind the move.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea contacted Ajax last month to express interest in Kudus, who will turn 23 this week.
Chelsea has made four offers for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, the most recent of which was an offer of £80 million (£75 million plus £5 million in add-ons) made last month.
Kudus has a contract with Ajax through 2025, but he recently turned down a one-year extension and wants out of the Johan Cruyff Arena.
In 63 Eredivisie games over three seasons in Amsterdam, he has 16 goals. In 24 games for Ghana, he has scored seven goals, two of which came in a 3-2 group-stage victory over South Korea at the 2022 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old signed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 club and demanded a fee of €15 million. Mohammed Salisu, a defender from Ghana, has officially moved from Southampton to Monaco.
Monaco released a statement to announce the signing of Salisu, “AS Monaco are delighted to announce the arrival of central defender Mohammed Salisu from Southampton Football Club.

“The 24-year-old Ghana international has signed a 5-season deal and is now tied to the Principality club until June 2028.”
Salisu spent three years at Southampton after moving there from Real Valladolid in Spain in the summer of 2020.
During his time on the south coast, he made a name for himself as one of the team’s top players and dominated the Premier League.
When Southampton was battling to stay in the top flight last season, the center-back, however, refused to sign a contract extension.
