President Nana Addo has pardoned Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, a former deputy national security coordinator.

The Council of State was consulted before the decision was made, and the Interior Minister has been instructed to see that the pardon is carried out right away.

The petition for clemency was started by Kpembewura Haruna Dari Bismark Banbange Ndefoso I, the Paramount Chief of the Kpembi Traditional Area. Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman’s release and pardon were requested in the petition on the grounds of his poor health and good behavior.

Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President, stated in a formal communication to the appropriate authorities, “I am directed by the President of the Republic to inform you that pursuant to a petition dated 19 July 2021, from the Paramount Chief of Kpembi Traditional Area, Kpembewura Haruna Dari Bismark Banbange Ndefoso I, for a presidential pardon and release of Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman on grounds of ill-health and good behavior. In consultation with the Council of State, the President has exercised the prerogative of mercy in favor of Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman and has granted him a pardon, in accordance with Article 72(1) (a) of the Constitution. Kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the presidential pardon immediately.”

In connection with the National Communications Authority (NCA) scandal, Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman had previously been found guilty in 2020 and given a five-year prison sentence.
