Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia called for a moral and upstanding campaign in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of its presidential primary elections. He referred to the election as a “family contest.”

He claimed that according to UP tradition, each of the nine candidates comes from the same ancestral roots.

As a result, he advised his followers to refrain from verbally disparaging other candidates for the party’s leadership in the upcoming election, whether directly or indirectly.

Dr. Bawumia, who is widely expected to win the position of flagbearer, stated that everyone must run a moral campaign in order to accomplish the task that awaits the party in 2024.

“As a family, all fractions must recognize that a united front is necessary to confront the NDC,” Dr. Bawumia stated in Kumasi during an interation with NPP delegates.

“I have instructed all my supporters and spokespersons that we must conduct a clean campaign, avoiding any from of insults.”

Dr. Bawumia pointed out that after the internal competition, the contestants would have to band together to compete against the NDC, so staying united was necessary.

On November 4, the NPP will choose its standard bearer for the 2024 elections.

However, the party will hold a super delegates’ conference in August to reduce the number from 10 to 5 before the November 4 election.

Relatively, former National Youth Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sammi Awuku has revealed that even though he remains a key campaigner of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s quest to become flag-bearer of the NPP, he is not the campaign manager per se.

Awuku explained that he coordinates and runs important areas of the ‘Bawumia for 2024’ campaign but is not necessarily the head of the campaign.

He pointed out that as at now, there is no formal structure to the campaign machinery of the Vice President but everyone in it understands their role and plays it according to get things done for the Vice President.
