The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has referred to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a “clearing agent” who will clear Cecilia Dapaah, the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, who was detained in connection with alleged theft of significant sums of money from her home.
He predicted that the theft case at Dapaah’s home would have the same outcome as any other corruption case that has plagued the NPP-led administration.
He claimed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would clear her of all charges, referring to him as “Mr. Lomotey” because he exonerated his appointees of corruption.
“President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has over the years cleared his appointees who have been involved in one corruption case or the other and I don’t see this as any exception.”
“Mr. Lomotey the clearing agent will as usual clear Cecilia Dapaah from the harbour of corruption,” he said on Accra-based Okay FM.
There has been a public uproar following court testimony that the Minister had kept millions of cedis, $300,000, and $1 million in Cecilia Dapaah and her husband Daniel Osei Kuffour’s home in Abelemkpe, Accra.
Two housekeepers, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, are accused of conspiring to commit a crime and five counts of theft in connection with the incident.
The alleged thefts, which allegedly took place between July and October 2022, included $95,000 worth of jewelry, clothing, handbags, and perfumes that belonged to Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
Sarah was a former house help, and Patience, also known as Maabena, was a house help for the complainants.
The couple later discovered some of their possessions were missing after Kuffour caught Patience hiding in their bedroom.
Patience was remanded into legal custody along with her purported boyfriends and father.
Because she is a nursing mother, Sarah was granted bail; her bail requirement is GH$1,000,000 with 2 sureties.
Further investigations showed that Patience and her alleged boyfriends used the stolen money to rent an apartment in Tamale, buy a car, and spend a lot of money on various items.
Additionally, Sarah built a three-bedroom house with her share of the funds, which is where she was later detained.
