It has come to light that investigators from the Office of the Special Prosecutor found additional cash while searching Cecilia Dapaah’s former homes in Abelemkpe and Cantonments, where she served as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources.

The amount of money discovered by the officials was so large that it took them five hours to finish counting, according to a report by TV3’s Eric Mawuena Egbeta.

The ongoing investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor has revealed more cash was discovered in the home of former sanitation and water resources minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

Cecilia Dapaah was detained by the OSP on Monday and interrogated for hours about alleged corruption before having her private residences searched and receiving bail later that evening.

The Minister was apprehended after a public outcry over court documents’ revelations that she had kept millions of Cedis, $300,000, and other large sums of money in her home that were stolen by her domestic staff and later turned over to the police and tried in court.

The money was allegedly stolen by Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, between July and October 2022, according to the charge sheet. They have since received bail and are scheduled to return to court on Wednesday, August 2.

Most Ghanaians have responded angrily to the scandal with calls for her prosecution.

Some Ashanti region residents in Mpasatia, the hometown of the troubled former minister, have praised the domestic helpers who stole her money, saying they deserve praise for their “bravery and smarts.”

Residents’ reactions to the scandal that has affected one of their own were mixed when Citi TV spoke with them about it. Some of them bemoaned the lack of progress in the region, citing, among other things, poor roads and unemployment, while politicians continued to forsake them and amass wealth for themselves. Others defended her, stating that they did not believe she had broken any laws.

One of the locals is seen in video praising the alleged thieves for their excellent work in stealing the former minister’s funds to better their lives.
