Some Ashanti region residents in Mpasatia, which also happens to be the hometown of embattled former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Dapaah, have praised the domestic workers who stole her money, saying they deserve praise for their “bravery and smarts.”

Residents’ reactions to the scandal that has affected one of their own were mixed when Citi TV spoke with them about it.

Some of them bemoaned the lack of progress in the region, citing, among other things, poor roads and unemployment, while politicians continued to forsake them and amass wealth for themselves. Others defended her, stating that they did not believe she had broken any laws.

On camera, one of the locals can be seen praising the alleged thieves for their excellent work in stealing the ex-minister’s money to improve their lives.

There has been a public uproar over court documents’ revelations that the Minister kept millions of Cedis, $300,000, and $1 million in her home that were stolen by her domestic staff, who were later detained and tried in court.

The money was allegedly stolen by Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, between July and October 2022, according to the charge sheet. They have since received bail and are scheduled to return to court on Wednesday, August 2.

Following the uproar and calls for her prosecution, the Office of the Special Prosecutor detained Dapaah on Monday and interrogated her for hours about alleged corruption before searching both her official residence in Cantonments and her private residence in Abelenkpe. She was later granted bail.

Meanwhile, Cecilia Dapaah has been granted bail after the former Sanitation Minister was arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Earlier yesterday, the Cecilia Abena Dapaah was detained, per the OSP, in connection with alleged theft of sizable sums of money from her home as well as other corruption-related offenses.
