The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, if chosen as the running mate, will aid the party in winning the general elections of 2024, according to Dr. Effah Eghan, a lecturer at the Luton University Department of African Studies.
He claims that having Wontumi as the party’s running mate will increase those chances and “break the 8 agenda.”
He revealed that Chairman Wontumi’s popularity crosses all geographic, tribal, and ethnic boundaries, and can therefore act as the NPP’s winning strategy.
The fact is that individuals like Chairman Wontumi are the ones leading the political pack; they have the influence and can easily sway votes in favor of their parties, according to Dr. Effah, regardless of how people currently perceive events.
He mentioned that Chairman Wontumi is just as vociferous as he is and is unflappable.
“Go to the northern part of the country, Wontumi is hailed, come to the southern part of Ghana he is loved and adored by all, he connects with the grassroots and has an easy influence on them,” he added.
Contrary to the popular “breaking the 8” mantra, some party members firmly believe that the NPP has the potential to hold onto power for a considerable amount of time but that it is impossible to break the 8 mantra.
In a related news, former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for implicitly endorsing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The president, he claimed, had broken the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constitution, which forbids the open endorsement of a presidential candidate.
Amidu recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of sincerity behind Akufo-Addo’s earlier assurance of an open internal election in a statement.
He emphasized that the promise was just a calculated action and was not meant to be carried out in reality.
