Ken Ofori-Atta, minister of finance, is unsure of when the mid-year budget review will be presented to parliament.

In order to accomplish this, Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, has called a meeting for Friday, July 28 to reschedule the event’s date.

Prior to the presentation, the Speaker says the Minister will meet with MPs to resolve any issues.

The presentation will likely happen on Monday, July 31 after the minister’s meeting, assuming there are no unforeseen changes or developments.

The mid-year budget presentation was originally scheduled for July 27, but Speaker Bagbin requested that it be moved due to some local and international engagements involving the House leadership.

The Speaker also stipulated that the presentation must occur by July 25, 2023, at the latest.

The mid-year budget review is a key occasion on Ghana’s economic calendar because it gives the government a chance to review its fiscal goals, revenue forecasts, and spending plans.

It enables adjustments to be made to deal with new economic problems and change the direction of the nation’s economic trajectory for the remainder of the year.

The date of the budget review is uncertain, which has led to concerns about the government’s readiness and communication methods.

Politicians and economists have also engaged in discussions and speculative debates about the possible effects of the delay.

In accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and Act 921 of 2016, the government must review its 2023 Economic Policy and Financial Statement before presenting it to Parliament on November 24, 2022.
