Members of Parliament (MPs) who abstain from performing their parliamentary duties should not be paid their allowances, according to Andrews Kwame Pianim, a business economist and investment consultant.
He added that a parliamentarian should lose their allowances if they do so because doing so is against their oath of office.
Kwame Pianim claimed that because parliament is new, it has a tendency to unfairly burden the developing judiciary.

His remarks follow the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs’ boycott of parliamentary proceedings in support of their colleague James Gyakye Quayson, who is in court for a criminal trial.
The Minority Caucus has carried out this action four times in a row.
On his behalf, James Gyakye Quayson is in court facing forgery and perjury accusations.
In a statement, the Minority Chief Whip, Governor Kwame Agbodza, stated that their abstention from the day’s parliamentary proceedings was due to their unwavering support for their colleagues and the importance of unity.
Meanwhile, whoever wins the 2024 general election is in God’s hands, according to Convention People’s Party (CPP) general secretary Nana Yaa Jantuah.
She reflected on previous, intriguing election results and asserted that God chooses Ghana’s president.
Nana Yaa Jantuah predicted that those who had revered God would triumph in the eagerly awaited elections of the following year.
“Election 2024 is in God’s hands and whoever has honored Him will emerge victorious. It is God who crowns kings. For instance, President Kufuor nobody thought that he will make it but he did. Same as President Atta Mills in 2008, I will never forget that incident. We went for a third election and God decided that Atta Mills will be President. It was strange but God gave Afare Gyan wisdom,” she said on Accra-based UTV.
“Be mindful about what you say about flagbearers because at the end of the day when Jehovah speaks nobody else can say anything. Only God crowns kings and 2008 is a typical example,” Nana Yaa Jantuah advised.
