Whoever wins the 2024 general election is in God’s hands, according to Convention People’s Party (CPP) general secretary Nana Yaa Jantuah.
She reflected on previous, intriguing election results and asserted that God chooses Ghana’s president.
Nana Yaa Jantuah predicted that those who had revered God would triumph in the eagerly awaited elections of the following year.
“Election 2024 is in God’s hands and whoever has honored Him will emerge victorious. It is God who crowns kings. For instance, President Kufuor nobody thought that he will make it but he did. Same as President Atta Mills in 2008, I will never forget that incident. We went for a third election and God decided that Atta Mills will be President. It was strange but God gave Afare Gyan wisdom,” she said on Accra-based UTV.
“Be mindful about what you say about flagbearers because at the end of the day when Jehovah speaks nobody else can say anything. Only God crowns kings and 2008 is a typical example,” Nana Yaa Jantuah advised.
Unfazed by his defeats in the elections of 2000 and 2004, the late Professor John Evan Fiifi Atta Mills of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepared for a new contest in 2008, where he finally triumphed over Nana Akufo-Addo, the incumbent president of Ghana.
The 2008 election was a particularly interesting one because, in contrast to previous elections, the Tain Constituency’s famous “last-minute” run-off elections determined the winner.
Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, Ghana’s Electoral Commissioner at the time, declared the elections in favor of Prof. Mills after a lengthy ride.
Many Ghanaians believed that despite President Kufuor’s best efforts, the quality of life had not increased, which is why the NPP was forced out of power.
The Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, according to the government, are to blame for Ghana’s recent economic crisis.
In his fourth attempt, former president John Dramani Mahama will compete against the victor of the NPP’s presidential elections.
Ten stalwarts of the NPP are competing in the flagbearer race, which promises to be a fiery one. However, the favorites are still Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.
