As the competition for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership heats up, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the value of a civil and respectful campaign.

Dr. Bawumia stated that the party must unite as a cohesive force as soon as the election is over to prevent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from retaking power.

He insisted that the internal competition shouldn’t be contentious because of this.

Dr. Bawumia said he has asked his supporters and spokespersons not to respond to aspirants who attack him in a speech to party members in the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that it is crucial for the entire family to understand that facing the NDC, the “main enemy,” requires a united front.

“I have instructed all my supporters and spokespersons that we must conduct a clean campaign, avoiding any form of insults.

“We are one family, and we must remain united. Once the contest concludes, we will come together as a cohesive force to ensure the NDC does not return to power.”

On November 4, the NPP will choose its standard bearer for the elections of 2024.

All ten flagbearer candidates have received approval to run in the upcoming elections so far.

The organization revealed this in a news release on July 12th.

The Prof. Mike Oquaye Vetting Committee approved all 10 candidates after carefully examining each one, according to the press release.

According to Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s general secretary, the Committee disclosed this in their report in accordance with Article 10(3) of the NPP constitution.

In a related news, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a candidate for the NPP flagbearership, asserts that he is the most qualified candidate to win the position.

He claims that in order to promote unity within the NPP, he sacrificed his political career in 2007 by resigning so that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could run in the 2008 presidential election.

Speaking to NPP representatives and supporters in the Volta region, Alan said “I made the greatest political sacrifice in the history of Ghana’s politics by stepping down for Nana Addo. It was in the supreme interest of the NPP to foster unity.”
