The Police Administration allegedly met with some journalists and paid them to amplify the contents of a leak tape, according to Good Evening Ghana.
Good Evening Ghana host When the journalists were greeted at the police headquarters by the Director of Finance of the Police for publication regarding the leak tape, Paul Adom-Otchere claims to have proof of money being paid to them.
According to the leaked tape, which surfaced on July 11, a prominent police commissioner and some NPP leaders are allegedly involved in a plot to depose the IGP.
However, according to Paul Adom Otchere, the police met with some journalists on his list prior to the release of the leak tape and paid them to push it.
“I have the list of the journalists and the amount paid to each of them and will be pushing it to the Ghana Journalists Association.”
According to Mr. Adom Otchere, the IGP’s divisive leadership style in building an elite force is the cause of tension within the police force.
The journalist cited his own interaction with the airport’s police commander following an arrest. Mr. Adom Otchere provided examples of alleged extrajudicial killings of Tamale civilians by elite Dampare-aligned forces in November 2022, which are the subject of a Habeas Corpus court order in Tamale.
Mr. Adom Otchere promised to keep an eye out to make sure Dampare abides by the law.
In a related news, former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has added his two cents to the leaked recording of high-ranking officials allegedly plotting to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office.
The secret tape is “authentic and not fake,” he declared.
Amidu, who previously worked as a lawyer in the Northern Region, acknowledged in a statement that the 50-minute recording was authentic and that he recognized one of the participants by voice.
He claimed to have personally visited the subject’s Accra office and observed the subject’s propensity to take calls during important discussions, which he believes may help to explain the existence of a recording.
