They claimed that the NPP launched road construction and development projects after the deaths of Philip Atta Basoah and James Gyakye Quayson, respectively, in an effort to win support for the candidates running in their party’s recent by-elections in Kumawu and Assin North.
Callers from Kumawu claimed in a phone-in contribution that the constituency would not have received attention for infrastructure development if the MP had not passed away.
“We saw them bringing a grader to clear the road for construction, so I asked myself that if the MP had not died, would to road be constructed? Then it clicked to me that anybody whose MP is an NPP member should pray to God to kill the person.”
They further questioned why such initiatives were not started while the representative was still alive rather than using his passing to spur advancement.
In response, Manso-Nkwanta MP George Takyi expressed displeasure with their remarks and assured them that he is doing everything in his power to improve the infrastructure in his district.
He mentioned that the contractor will soon resume work on the Pakyi Nos. 1 and 2 roads, which were given under contract.
He promised that areas like Manso-Nkwanta, Antoakrom, and others would soon be worked on. He argued that it is unfair to wish someone would pass away in order to make way for development, but the government is making every effort to repair the inadequate infrastructure, including the roads.
