The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vetting committee has given the go-ahead to all 10 of its presidential candidates.
The ten candidates are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Joe Ghartey, Francis Addai-Nimoh, Kwadwo Poku, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, and signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s National Council will discuss the recommendations of the Vetting Committee on July 20, 2023.
However, the party’s general secretary advised all of the candidates to conduct their campaigns and interactions with decorum.
“My word of advice to all of them and their supporters is that they should be measured in their utterances and have the party’s interest first at heart before any other interest comes in.
“Its important that we all work together as a party to ensure that everyone’s statement or campaign is in decorous. It also throws a challenge to us the national party, our duty as the referee is to make sure that the processes leading to the elections are free, fair, transparent and also peaceful. It makes it easy for us“ he said.
On Monday, July 10, 2023, the National Council received a report from the party’s presidential primary vetting committee through the General Secretary.
Relatively, according to a Global Info Analytics poll, 54% of Ghanaian voters want the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be led by Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in the 2024 elections.
The survey results demonstrate Alan Kyerematen’s appeal and popularity among floaters.
In contrast, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the current Vice President, was favored by 46% of respondents.
The important findings were shared by Mussa Dankwa, the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, who said: “The big story is that Alan is the preferred choice of floating voters.
“He’s popular amongst floating voters. Alan has been consistent throughout. Amongst all Ghanaian voters, 54% of them said they will vote for Alan, they said they prefer Alan. 46% said they will prefer Dr. Bawumia.”
