There is presently an ongoing and uneasy chaos in the the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Techiman South Constituency in the Bono East Region.

Following the results of internal polls, the situation is alleged to have worsened on the already divided front in the party in the region.

Following the ensuing turmoil, two people, including an 80-year-old grandpa, were reported to have been beaten by two heavily built men who are believed to have been assigned by the constituency chairman, Alhaji Nuhu Fawa.

Alhaji Nuhu Fawa, the party’s chairman, who appeared in court to address the issue appealed for a settlement outside of the courtroom.

The victims of the hoodlums’ attack, who suffered some severe injuries as a result, have subsequently been treated at Holy Family Hospital in Techiman and released.

Videos show a fight taking place on the premises of a local radio station as the chairman is alleged to have ordered his men to beat up listeners, accusing them of spreading untruths about him on the airways.

The targets of the attacks, according to party members in the district, were those who had a dispute with Alhaji Nuhu Fawa over something that has not yet been made public.

Due to the firing of two constituency executives, there has been a media spat between the two groups, which heightened the already present tension.

In a letter written by the constituency secretary Edward Fosu Nsowah, he said that Yussif Mohammed and Fuseini Nafiu had engaged in anti-party behavior that was contrary to the party’s ideals.

On Saturday, July 9, 2023, upon learning of the development, a few branch executives and dozens of party members wearing red armbands surrounded the constituency office, purportedly shutting it down, and accused the constituency chairman of violating the law.

    ARREST MADE

Alhaji Nuhu Fawa was later detained by the Bono East Regional Police Command and charged on Monday, July 10, 2023, before the Techiman District Court.

Although his attorney argued for an out-of-court settlement because it was an internal party matter, his plea was not accepted.

The victims had to be convinced to accept a settlement outside of court through the intervention of opinion leaders and certain party elders.

After granting the request, the trial judge handed the parties one month to work out their differences.
