The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, during a campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, left the audience in shock with a compelling story of his near-death experience while on assignment for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing the party faithfuls, he disclosed the perilous journey he had taken with Jacob Obetsibi-Lamptey, a former National Chairman, who was charged to unravel the reasons for the dispute regardless of the NPP’s 2012 election results.

Dr. Bawumia recounts what happened when they were returning from the Upper West on their way to the final area of the mission. As they approached Accra, tragedy struck when two tires on their car suddenly exploded, sending the car toppling four times.

The impact was so severe that bystanders, including Jacob Obetsebi-Lamptey, feared the worst, believing that Dr. Bawumia had passed away after the crash.

The wreckage of the car is proof of the severity of the accident, making it almost impossible to imagine that anyone could have survived. However, by a divine arrangement, Dr. Bawumia survived the wreckage.

In the aftermath of the accident, prompt and supportive action by team members on the scene is critical.

They quickly transferred Dr. Bawumia to a medical facility in Wenchi, located in the Bono region, where immediate stabilization efforts took place. The severity of his injuries prompted him to be transferred to Kumasi later, from where he was eventually airlifted to Accra.

The Vice President expressed deep gratitude for the successful recovery he has achieved, thanks to the grace of God and the unwavering commitment of those who have assisted him during this difficult time.

Dr. Bawumia shared this deeply personal account in response to those who have questioned the sacrifices he has made for the NPP. In recounting the heartbreaking incident, he tried to emphasize his unwavering dedication and commitment to the party cause.

Even after surviving the crash, he did not hesitate to take on the challenge of testifying in an election petition to the Supreme Court.

His unwavering determination to fulfill his duty shows his profound sacrifice and loyalty to NPP.
