Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, the member of Parliament for South Dayi has taken swipe at LGBTQ+ activists who are fighting against the bill to criminalize their activities in the country.

The 275 members of Parliament unanimously agreed to pass the anti-LGBTQ bill that is currently before the chamber.

This comes after the 36-page document was subjected to months of public discussion and approval by legislators and stakeholders following its introduction in 2021.

The contested legislation has already been the target of several legal challenges; the most recent lawsuit was only made public on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Following calls from members of the LGBTQ+ group, Dafeamekpor has called them out.

According to him, LGBTQ+ members want the right to have sex with cats but they’re against people who want to use cat for soup.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians have praised the members of parliament for the immediate passage of anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

Reacting to the news, some Ghanaians called for strict and hard punishment for any person caught engaging in homosexuality.

Some also said if the Western world are eager to stop helping Ghana financially because of the passage of the anti-LGBTQ bill then so be it.

In a related news, Deputy National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kweku Boahen has said that Members of Parliament of both NPP and NDC party were afraid of losing their seats if they opposed the anti-LGBTQ Bill.

Kweku Boahen speaking in a panel discussion on UTV, stated that ahead of the 2024 general elections, MPs were scared of standing against the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
