Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has declared his intention to run for re-election in the upcoming GFA elections, which are set for October.

In response to his declaration, Okraku received a standing ovation and chants of “Long Live Kurt” from the audience at the 29th GFA Ordinary Congress.

Okraku’s affirmation opens the door for a tight race because former vice presidents of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie and Kojo Yankah have also declared their intention to run.

Despite losing to Okraku in the 2019 elections, Afriyie is regarded as a formidable contender with the ability to overthrow Okraku’s rule.

New executives, including the hotly contested president, will be chosen during the GFA elections, which are scheduled for October.

Kurt Okraku emphasized his commitment to continuing his leadership journey in Ghana football during his speech at the Congress.

His accomplishments over the previous three and a half years were emphasized, including Ghana’s victory at the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and the national team’s qualification for the Qatar 2022 World Cup after defeating Nigeria in the final qualifying round.

Relatively, Abdul Salam Yakubu, the owner and financier of New Edubiase Football Club, stormed out of the 29th Ordinary Congress on Monday while Kurt Okaraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), was speaking in the Great Hall at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

In response to some of the words used by Mr. Kurt Okraku, president of the GFA, during his address, Mr. Abdul Salam expressed his outrage.

Abdul Salam Yakubu, however, asserted that a significant portion of the speech was merely political chit-chat and had nothing specifically to do with Congress.

He emphasized that Okarku’s speech contained indirect personal attacks on him, which is improper in the eyes of Congress.
