Sir Sam Jonah, a successful businessman, has categorically denied rumors that he is vying to be former President John Mahama’s running mate in the 2024 elections.

According to the ex-boss of Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited, he is not interested.

In a statement to “Good Evening Ghana” on Metro TV, he stated, “Anyone who knows me well will attest to the fact that I have no interest whatsoever in going into the murky world of politics.”

He talked about turning down offers to serve as Vice President in the 1990s under former President Jerry John Rawlings.

“As a matter of fact, if I was interested, I would have been Vice President in 1992 and 1996 when I was offered the position on a silver platter,” he explained.

Although Mr. Mahama has called it “worthless speculation,” some media outlets have speculated that Mr. Jonah will serve as the NDC flagbearer Mr. Mahama’s running mate.

Mr. Jonah is revered as a global business icon throughout the world. In 1986, he was named Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited’s chief executive officer, and he oversaw the company’s transformation from a single-mine operation into a global enterprise.

He received an honorary knighthood as Knight Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) from Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth, in 2003.

The first active African business to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange was Ashanti Gold, which had listings in Ghana and London.

The Companion of the Order of the Star, Ghana’s highest national honor, was given to him in 2006.

He was named one of the top 25 most powerful business figures in the world by CNN and Time Magazine in December 2004. He is regarded as a global leader in management, ethics, marketing, and innovation.

Five Lifetime Achievement Awards have been given to him, the most recent of which is the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
