On Friday, July 7, the renovated Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) in Accra will be temporarily shut down until Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

The park will be closed to allow for preparations for its commercial operations, according to a statement from Mr. Edward Quao, the park’s acting director.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we are committed to delivering a remarkable experience that exceeds the expectation of the community and visitors,”

On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially opened the renovated Park.

He predicts that the renovated park will draw about a million domestic and foreign visitors each year.

Including that the government will keep making investments in the tourism industry to support economic recovery.

The building where Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah’s remains are kept is situated on the former polo grounds in Accra, where Ghana’s independence was proclaimed, and it underwent a $3.5 million renovation.

Meanwhile, in the first three months of 2023, more than 300 health workers left the Ghana Health Service in the Ashanti Region in search of better opportunities abroad.

According to data from the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate, 304 health workers—including doctors and nurses—have requested unpaid leave.

The majority of these health workers, according to additional investigations by the directorate, have left the country in search of better living conditions abroad.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, acknowledges the harm that this exodus is doing to the region’s ability to provide healthcare.

“When we did the analysis for the first quarter of 2023, we realised that about 304 applied for leave without pay which means that they have left the service, but additional information indicates that most of them have left the country and these are very skilful health workers with the right knowledge, attitude, and skill to do the job, but it seems that they have been attracted outside the country.
