Mason Mount has been acquired by Manchester United for an initial sum of £55 million.

Depending on performance and appearances over several seasons, midfielder Mount’s total price for the England national team could reach £60 million.

The 24-year-old has committed to Old Trafford for a five-year contract that can be extended by an additional year and runs through the summer of 2028.

His 18-year relationship with Chelsea, during which he won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, ends with Mount becoming United’s first summer signing.

It’s never easy to leave the team where you grew up, but Manchester United will present an exciting new challenge for the next stage of my career, said Mount, who will don United’s iconic No. 7 shirt.

“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.

“Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead and am ready for the hard work expected here.
“I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”

In a social media video on Tuesday night, Mount said goodbye to Chelsea supporters. He departs Stamford Bridge with 195 appearances across all competitions, 33 goals, and 37 assists.

John Murtough, director of football at Manchester United, said of Mason: “Mason is a very intelligent footballer and possesses so many fantastic technical qualities that will greatly enhance our squad.
