In order to win the upcoming general elections in 2024, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a potential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, has emphasized the importance of party delegates coming together and fortifying their ranks.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto addressed issues within the party and acknowledged that there was apathy among party members due to their dissatisfaction with what they perceived to be a lack of rewards for their efforts in bringing the NPP to power in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
He promised the delegates that, if chosen as the NPP’s flagbearer, he would work assiduously to address their issues and foster a strong sense of unity within the party, ensuring victory in the 2024 elections.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto emphasized the loss of parliamentary seats and a decline in voter support as reasons for the NPP’s poor performance in the 2020 elections compared to prior ones.
He emphasized the need for the party to take on a new direction and focus because it was crucial to make changes before the upcoming elections.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto referred to his extensive travels to all 16 regions of the nation while serving as the former Minister of Food and Agriculture in order to evaluate how the ministry’s programs and policies affected the lives of the populace.
He spoke with party members during these visits, and he was deeply troubled by their complaints about abandonment, unemployment, hunger, and a lack of educational opportunities for their kids.
He emphasized that a situation like that would make it more difficult for the party to win the general elections in 2024.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto visited a number of constituencies during his nationwide campaign tour, including Shai-Osudoku, Ningo-Prampram, Ashaiman, Domeabra-Obom, Ayawaso East, and Ayawaso West North. He was accompanied by his co-chairmen for the campaign, Alfred Boye and KEN-WUUD Nuworsu, as well as the campaign spokesperson, Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu, and the national coordinator of the campaign team, Peter Oteng Darko.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto, a two-term member of parliament for Kwadaso, emphasized the urgency of the situation and said that the party’s current situation did not favor winning the 2024 elections.
In order to end the cycle of eight years of governance, he emphasized the significance of forging a strong and united front.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto urged the delegates to hold onto hope in his concluding remarks and assured them that, if chosen as the NPP’s flagbearer, he would put their welfare first.
He promised to address their issues and work for improvement. Voting for him would improve the future of the NPP and its members, Dr. Afriyie Akoto pleaded with the delegates.
