The Special Prosecutor has finished looking into allegations of corruption against high-profile suspected corruption cases in accordance with section 3 (3) of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959).
It claimed to have finished looking into allegations made against Charles Adu Boahen, a former minister of state in the ministry of finance, and three other people.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor stated that it is also looking into 150 additional cases at various stages of consideration.
According to a half-year report, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, alias Sir John the deceased former Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, allegedly improperly acquired state-protected land at the Achimota Forest enclave and the Sakumono Ramsar site.
In relation to the recruitment process for Course 51 of Cadet Officers Training at the Ghana Police Academy, Airbus SE, a multinational European aerospace company, was informed that an investigation into alleged corruption and offenses related to corruption was ongoing. This investigation relates to the sale and purchase of military aircraft for the Republic of Ghana.
The other high-profile cases are those involving former Minister of State for Finance Charles Adu Boahen, whose case was referred for investigation by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after Tiger Eye PI’s investigation, as well as cases involving suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses in relation to the recruitment process for Course 51 of Cadet Officers Training at the Ghana Police Academy.
The remaining cases involve investigations into alleged attempts to bribe some members of the Parliament’s majority caucus by an unnamed, wealthy businessman.
In other news, famous Ghanaian attorney Sam Okudzeto claims that if the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II, had been a member of the Judicial Council’s Disciplinary Committee, he should have been asked to resign from his position as a justice of the High Court for making public comments on a case that was still pending in court.
He asserted that the Dormaahene should be dealt with by the Judicial Council.
After the Dormaahene urged Attorney-General (A-G), Godfred Yeboah Dame, to drop the criminal charges against James Gyakye Quayson, the Member of Parliament-elect for Assin North, Sam Okudzeto, a member of the General Legal Council, made the decision.
