Today, July 3, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vetting committee will begin screening some candidates.

The former trade minister Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Kwadwo Poku will be on the committee when it starts working.

On Tuesday, July 4, the vetting committee will also hear from former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Dr. Owusu Afriyie, a former minister of agriculture, and Joe Ghartey, the MP for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, will take turns on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

Francis Addai-Nimako, a former Mampong MP, will undergo vetting on Thursday to complete the process.

Prof. Mike Oquaye, a former speaker of parliament, serves as the committee’s chair.

Other members include Lord Oblittey Commey, Stephen Abenkwa Sekyere, Osei Bonsu Amoah, Rita Talata, Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, and Adelaide Ahwireng in addition to Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako Atta.

Relatively, Joseph Bediako, the Movement for Truth and Accountability’s convener, has threatened to leave the country if the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) wins 47% of the vote in the 2024 elections.

He claims that the Ghanaian people have already rejected the NPP and that this rejection will be evident in the election results in 2024.

“Even if you don’t use what happened in Assin North as a yardstick, everyone who has followed politics will know that the NPP has been rejected by the Ghanaian people. Next year I will prophesy that if the NPP is able to garner 47% of the votes, I will be in exile for two years. Even if they use violence, they cannot get 47% during that election.

The people of Ghana have rejected the NPP. The political party is finished. They don’t regard anyone outside the political party. They are my friends and I know them. They are arrogant and that will even affect them more.” he said.
