The former vice president Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur’s wife, Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, has admitted that she frequently suggested that he step down from his role as vice president of Ghana.
She claimed that despite many requests for him to resign, she never did because she understood the value of his voice in the government and the potential void that his resignation might cause.
“Many times, many times, but after I said that (he should resign), I realized that if he goes out, who will say the kind of things he says, so he should be there even if he is not listened to, say it, and make a difference,” Matilda said in a statement to Joy News on June 29, 2023, to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the death of her husband.

She claimed that Amissah Arthur’s participation in politics was essential to promoting just causes and ensuring that the nation was headed in the right direction.
