Three contractors working on the government’s Agenda 111 project’s health facility construction have been fired.
Agenda 111 is a component of a vast healthcare sector vision for Ghana, whose realization will make Ghana a center of medical excellence and a popular destination for medical tourists.
101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in the recently established regions, two specialized hospitals in the middle and northern belts, a regional hospital in the Western Region, and renovations to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital are all part of the Agenda 111 project.
In order to ensure the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal Three of the United Nations, the project’s goals were to improve access to healthcare services for all citizens and significantly deepen the delivery of high-quality healthcare at the district level.

In keeping with the government’s commitment to providing universal healthcare for all citizens, the proposed project will enhance the provision of healthcare infrastructure.
Dr. Nsiah Asare, the presidential advisor on health, gave a press conference at Trede in the Ashanti region and announced that some hospitals that were running behind schedule had been shut down.
He clarified that three contractors’ contracts had been terminated for non-performance and failing to live up to expectations.
“As we have indicated, we will not compromise on the standards of these hospitals and the construction timelines which is why we have moved quickly to terminate the contracts of these contractors,” he said.
The Ghana Investment Infrastructure Fund (GIIF) helped the government secure a US$100 million start-up fund in 2021 for the start of construction on the “Agenda 111” district, as well as on specialized and regional hospitals across the nation.
