Kumawood actress Christian Awuni has disclosed in a latest interview that prior to 2016 general elections, Kumawood producers forced them to vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party.
Christiana Awuni spoke to Angel TV’s reporter while on a campaign tour in the just-ended Assin North by-election to canvass vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate James Gyakye Quayson, who eventually won the elections on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
Speaking during the interview, the actress stated that she has decided to switch party because President Nana Addo and NPP government have failed to deliver its promise to Ghanaians.
According to her, even though some of her colleagues in the Kumawood industry are still supporting the NPP, she and a few of them have decided to go back to NDC and they support the opposition party in the upcoming elections in 2024.
She further added that the Kumawood producers who threatened to blacklist anyone who did not vote NPP in 2016 have run to hiding following the bad governance under President Nana Addo’s administration.
Recall, during the Assin North by-elections, some Kumawood stars; Big Akwes, Nana Yeboah, and others stormed the Central Region to support NPP’s candidate Charles Opoku, who lost miserably to Gyakye Quayson.
Legendary actor, Agya Koo had previously visited the Assin North Constituency, defying the rain to canvass vote for NPP but all amounted to nothing.
