    NPP Breaks Silence After Losing Assin North By-election To Gyakye Quayson

    The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has released a press statement after losing miserable to James Gyakye Quayson in the Assin North by-election which took place yesterday.

    Mr. Gyakye Quayson defeated Charles Opoku of NPP and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) with a total of 17,245 votes, or 57.56 percent of the votes cast.

    In the fiercely contested bye-election, Mr. Charles Opoku received 12,630 votes, or 42.15 percent of the total votes cast, while Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the LPG received a pitiful 87 votes (0.29%).

    The NPP was so confident of snatching the Assin North seat from Gyakye Quayson, who was removed from Parliament and while facing court over dual nationality have congratulated the NDC MP.

    “The Party extends its warmest congratulations to National Democratic Congress and the Member of Parliament-elect for the Assin North Constituency on their electoral victory.

    In spite of the conduct of some personnel of the Ghana Police Service that were deployed to man the elections, we commend the security services for their joint effort during and the after the elections. We further commend the Electoral Commission for the ensuring a successful election,” part of the statement read.

    In statement signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party expressed it profound gratitude to its party faithfuls who supported Charles Opoku throughout the campaign even though he lost the election on the d-day.

    According to the party, they see the lost as a wake up call to sit up and re-strategize for the main elections in 2024.

    “The Party views the outcome of the by-election as a wake-up call, prompting us to evaluate our approach, make rational retrospective assessments, and conduct thorough analysis.”
