According to JoySports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has increased the filing fee for the position of president of the football governing body from GH5,000 to GH50,000.

The association stated that the cost of election administration is what prompted them to ask Congress to approve the new nomination fee in a communique to members on June 24, 2023.

Most likely to pay this sum as nomination fees are candidates like Kurt Okraku, George Afriyie, and Kojo Yankah, along with other potential rivals.

Prosper Harrison Addo, the General Secretary of the GFA, recently released a statement on June 24th recommending a significant increase in the nomination fee for presidential candidates.

The now-defunct Normalisation Committee charged GH5,000 per candidate in 2019, but the Kurt Okraku-led administration increased the amount to GH50,000 after the Elections Committee made the suggestion.

While the Regional Football Association (RFA) nomination form will cost GH 10,000, the Executive Council nomination form, which was previously priced at GH2,500, is now priced at GH15,000.

GH 5,000 will be charged for the RFA position on the Executive Council, GH 1000 for the position of District Chairman, and GH 5000 for the District Executive Council application.

Female Aspirants are expected to pay 50% of the fee.

On July 10, 2023, the GFA will call Congress to session. The proposal is expected to be approved.

The new amount will be discussed by Congress members, who will then decide whether to accept it or reject it after considering the GFA’s justification and the financial effects on prospective candidates.

Candidates and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the outcome of Congress’ decision, which will have significant implications for the upcoming elections, as the GFA Presidential race heats up.
