General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Franklin Fifi Kwetey has said that the victory for James Gyakye Quayson in the Assin North Constituency in the Central Region, by-election confirms what the party have been saying about the Akufo-Addo Bawumia leadership being abysmal.

“This is a signal that any wise people will learn from, any intelligent people will learn from, any humble people will learn from,” he said during an interview with 3FM reacting to the win for the NDC candidate.

The former Ketu South Member of Parliament (MP) claimed that the NPP had been punished for the injustice done to Ghanaians in general as well as the residents of Assin North.

He added, “What it is [Assin North constituents] have indicated is something the country as a whole must pay attention to. They have shown that they are the people who believe that justice must be done. They are people who believe you cannot impoverish a nation, you cannot render a people to become so full of suffering, dehumanizing, reduce their dignity and then use a period of about a month to try hard to deceive them that you care.

“So what it is they have signaled to the rest of the country that this type of governance, this type of of leadership is a leadership that must absolutely be thrown into dustbin of history, must be punished, must be humiliated and must be exposed. And I hope to God that the 30 million plus of Ghanaians are paying heed.”

This comes after James Gyakye Quayson, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Assin North by-election, won.

He defeated Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG). Mr. Quayson garnered 17,245 votes, representing 57.56 percent of the total votes cast, on June 27, 2023.
