The minority leader in parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its vote-buying strategies in the Assin North by-election.

He claimed that in order to persuade some voters to support their candidate, the NPP is giving them 200 and 300 cedis.

Dr. Forson denied accusations that he was involved in money distribution while speaking to journalists in Assin North, and he charged the NPP with attempting to deflect attention from its own actions.

He stated that he had personally observed money being distributed in ten different places throughout Assin Bereku, the district’s capital, and he urged the Ghana Police Service to take action.

Dr. Forson expressed his disapproval of these methods and called the donations’ sums despicable.

Following the annulment of the 2020 parliamentary election won by James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Electoral Commission (EC) set the by-election for June 27.

After determining that Mr. Quayson had dual citizenship at the time he submitted his nomination paperwork, the Supreme Court issued an order directing Parliament to remove Mr. Quayson’s name from its files.

James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) are the three contenders for the position.

In related news, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Assin North residents to vote against James Quayson of the NDC.

Voting for Mr. Quayson, according to him, would be a waste of time because he would probably be charged with perjury.

In a realted news, a fresh report received by InsightNewsgh.com in the ongoing Assin North by-election is that a man impersonating security officer has been picked up by the police.

A video shared by UTV on Twitter, captures the moment two police officers led the man who disguised himself as a security officer in handcuff in one of the polling stations in Assin North.

Some residents were heard saying “he be NPP guy” as the policemen carried him away. He is seen dressed fully like an army officer.

InisghtNewsgh.com can’t confirm whether the man arrested for impersonating security officer is an NPP guy or not.

Stay tuned for more updates in the ongoing Assin North by-election.
