If he wins reelection, former president and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has vowed to name James Gyakye Quayson as a minister.
Prior to the by-election scheduled for Assin North on Tuesday, June 27, Mahama assured residents of the area when he spoke to them over the weekend.
“He [Gyake Quayson] is humble, God-fearing, and respects everyone. If God helps me to be president, nothing will stop me from appointing him as a minister. Even as an opposition MP, look at what he has been able to do in terms of development from his own pockets. Just imagine what he would do if he becomes a minister,” Mahama added.
Following the annulment of the Mr. Quayson-winning 2020 parliamentary election in the region, the Electoral Commission set a by-election for Assin North.
Gyakye Quayson’s name had to be removed from Parliament’s records after the Supreme Court declared the election invalid and found the NDC candidate guilty of having held dual citizenship before registering to run in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Quayson was subsequently nominated for the by-election by the National Democratic Congress.
According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the police providing security in the Central Region’s Assin North Constituency are plotting to ensure that the ruling party wins the by-elections on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Assin North by-elections on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia defied the rain to commissioned an Astroturf in the constituency.
The video captures the Vice President in the company of the NPP National Youth Organizer, Nana B walking through the heavy with some government officials as they stormed the newly constructed pitch to exchange pleasantries with the team who were about to play.
The luck players who shook hands with Dr. Bawumia and Nana B were seen beaming with smiles.
Dr. Bawumia was heard encouraging both teams to give their best to make the game exciting to watch.
