Assin North By-elections: Don’t Vote For Someone Who Will End Up In Jail – Akufo-Addo

Residents of Assin North have been urged by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to vote against James Gyakye Quayson in the upcoming by-election.

Voting for Mr. Quayson, according to him, would be a waste of time because he would probably be charged with perjury.

In an effort to increase support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the Assin North by-election scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, he made the statement.

Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of making informed decisions when addressing a sizable crowd of Assin North residents.

“It is crucial for us to exercise our voting rights responsibly,” the President stated firmly. “We should not support or vote for individuals who are entangled in legal controversies that may eventually lead them to face imprisonment.

“We need someone who can come and help you. Someone who will work in your interest. I heard Gyakye Quayson say that even in prison, you people will vote for him, can he work from jail? We vote for people to go to Parliament to work, how can he work from prison so don’t vote for someone who will end up in jail, vote for someone who can work to improve your lives.”

Due to the legal difficulties that James Gyakye-Quayson, the district’s former representative, had to deal with, there has been political unrest in the area.

In the upcoming by-election, he urged them to carefully consider the candidates’ biographies, credentials, and reputations before casting their ballots.

Additionally, President Akufo-Addo denied allegations that he tried to influence the court to rule against Mr. Quayson.

Following the annulment of the Mr. Quayson-winning 2020 parliamentary election in the region, the Electoral Commission set a by-election for Assin North.

Relatively, if he wins reelection, former president and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has vowed to name James Gyakye Quayson as a minister.

Prior to the by-election scheduled for Assin North on Tuesday, June 27, Mahama assured residents of the area when he spoke to them over the weekend.
