Members of Parliament have suggested that Asamoah Gyan, a former captain of the Black Stars, be taught as a subject in schools in order to motivate future generations.

They argued that his iconic status and brand should also be promoted in order to encourage other well-off football players to follow in his footsteps and contribute to the socioeconomic advancement of the nation.

The proposal was made by Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh in a statement he read on the House floor in honor of the former Ghana international. Many members agreed with him.

After more than 20 years as a professional footballer, Asamoah Gyan made his retirement from active play official this week.

With 51 goals, Gyan holds the record for most goals scored by a member of the Ghanaian national team. At the FIFA World Cups in 2006, 2010, and 2014, he represented Ghana. He is the leading African goal scorer in World Cup history with six goals.

Additionally, Gyan represented Ghana at the 2004 Summer Olympics and seven Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019, where he helped Ghana finish third in 2008 and second in 2010 and 2015.

According to the Majority Whip, Asamoah Gyan is unmatched in recent Ghanaian football history.

“He said, “It might be debatable who is considered the greatest of all time in Ghanaian football, with the likes of Baba Yara, Abdul Razak, Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, and so forth.”

“As much as we all may have our favourites on the pitch, Asamoah Gyan is undoubtedly one of the best in the past two decades as far as the attacking department of the male Ghanaian football team is concerned.”

Asamoah Gyan is without a doubt one of the first football players to become successful businessmen, with ventures in the aviation industry (Baby Jet Airlines) and the housing and real estate industries (Baby Jet Plaza), as noted by Hon. Annoh Dompreh.

He emphasized that Gyan has fed many Ghanaians with Vits Noodles and Rice and quenched their thirst with Paradise mineral water at Dobro Nsawam in the food and agriculture sectors.

According to him, a monument should be built in his honor to honor his numerous contributions and to show Ghana’s appreciation for a man with such great ability and talent both on and off the field.

Abdul-Raship Pelpuo, Amin Anta, Andy Appiah Kubi, Ahmed Ibrahim, and Freda Prempeh were among the other lawmakers who contributed to the statement, backed it, and praised the former Black Stars captain for his sacrifices.
