Due to the subsequent parliamentary by-election in the constituency, the Assin North Constituency is currently the focus of attention in Ghanaian politics.

Bigwigs from the two largest political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is the main opposition force, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is in power, have visited Assin North to canvass for votes.

According to reports, the NDC candidate, James Gyakye Quayson, was removed from parliament after the Supreme Court of Ghana ruled that he was ineligible to run in the 2020 election, and the two parties are doing everything in their power to win the Assin North seat, which was declared vacant after.

In a latest development ahead of the Assin North by-elections on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, legendary actor Kofi Adu popularly known as Agya Koo has defied the rain as he stormed the community to campaign for NPP’s candidate Charles Opoku.

Clad in a white T-shirt which had the image of Charles Opoku and blue jeans, Agya Koo was accompanied by some NPP faithfuls as they entered the community market to canvass for vote.

Agya Koo was warmly received with accolades and praises from the market women who hailed the veteran actor as he waved back at them with healthy smiles.

Previously, John Setor Dumelo, an actor who doubles as an NDC candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, was seen campaigning for the party on Okada in Assin North.

The actor posted a video of himself riding a motorcycle through Assin Kushea while yelling the NDC catchphrase, “3y3 Zu” and “3y3 Za.”

On Tuesday, June 27, there will be a by-election, in which the NDC will be vying to keep the seat.

Party officials have been canvassing the district to support James Gyakye Quayson’s reelection as a member of parliament.
