Asamoah Gyan, who is retiring from professional football, has received ecstatic tributes from athletes and football fans all over the world.

On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, the 37-year-old made his retirement announcement in a speech at the 30th Afreximbank Annual Meeting.

The forward, a former Sunderland and Stade Rennes player, leaves the game as Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals and second-most caps.

Gyan said in a statement that he decided to hang up his boots because he thought the time was right.

Gyan last appeared for the national team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which has been over four years since his last game.

He was also left off of Ghana’s World Cup roster last year, which led to the Black Stars’ early elimination from the competition.

An absolute legend of the game 🔥
